Westin will be presenting three papers at WATERCON 2012:

  • Empowering Operations through Technology, March 21, 11:00 AM. Kevin Cooke. New capabilities for remote monitoring and control are allowing utilities to leverage their SCADA systems and personnel to improve operations. Best practices and standards for using mobile technology will be discussed.

  • From Pencils To Pentiums: Implementing Your First CMMS, March 20, 8:30 AM. Brian Kooistra. There are unique challenges to implementing your first a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) in an organization that has not previously used computers. This presentation discusses CMMS implementation in context of people and processes as an integrated business solution to manage maintenance workflow, track preventive measures, manage staff time, and provide an interactive catalog of assets and parts.
  • Complete SCADA System Replacement: Where do we go from here? March 30, 1:00 PM. John Mirabella. The City of Chicago Department of Water Management recently completed a large SCADA upgrade project encompassing their Pumping Station and Distribution systems. In order to address the challenges associated with managing, maintaining, and improving their SCADA systems, the Department is developing a Master Plan for the next phase of the SCADA system's life-cycle. This presentation will cover the complexity of the Pumping Station and Distribution systems project including challenges and lessons learned.  Furthermore, the presentation will discusses the reasons for developing a SCADA System Master Plan, the key business and operational imperatives that are addressed, and the process utilized to determine what, how and where precious dollars are spent aligning technology with the Department's business requirements.
