Westin to Lead Webinar on IT and Control System Security for WaterISAC

RANCHO CORDOVA, CALIF. – Westin Engineering will lead a two-part webinar for WaterISAC Pro subscribers to help utilities improve information and communications security related to SCADA/control, information systems and other IT assets.

During the first session, Westin will provide information that utility managers and executives need to understand how cyber security issues affect business systems and control of water treatment. This session will occur Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at 2:00 pm ET. Specifically, the webinar will address:

• Application of Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Defense in Depth Guidelines;
• Common issues, surprises, and lessons learned from vulnerability assessments and remediation;
• Policies required to improve security of the IT architecture while maintaining control; and
• Planning, budgeting, and staffing to improve cyber security.

The second session, Wednesday April 6, 2011 at 2:00 pm ET, is geared towards security analysts, network administrators, engineers, and SCADA support staff. This session will present ways to improve network and system security in context of DHS recommendations and best practices. The seminar will address:

• Establishing technical controls to provide a secure IT architecture (SCADA and Administrative Infrastructure);
• Application of vulnerability assessments as part of continuous security remediation processes;
• Using good security practices to enable secure data transfer between networks;
• Overcoming technical challenges implementing security improvements; and
• Remote access, patch management, multi-factor authentication, and intrusion detection systems.
