Principal Consultant (AMR/AMI)

The Principal Consultant will independently manage and lead teams with complete responsibility and personally performing the majority of key technical tasks of large projects within budget, schedule, and Westin quality standards.

The Principal Consultant will focus on management consulting in the areas of Enterprise Asset Management and Smart Grid / Automatic Meter Reading and Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMR/AMI) systems. Technical consulting on package selection, implementation and integration with other business systems. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Accepted as subject matter expert in the areas of Asset Management and Smart Grid/AMR/AMI systems
  • Identify business opportunities, prepare proposals, and win new business
  • Understands specialty products/equipment, keeps knowledge up-to-date
  • Work on multiple delivery teams, both inside and outside their assigned region as required
  • Assist in obtaining one or more new client/projects through being proposed as project manager, preparing proposals and/or preparing and participating in presentations
  • Successfully manage assigned projects to the clients' satisfaction, within budget, and on schedule, including obtaining contract change orders and schedule adjustments where justified
  • Maintains personal relationship with key accounts, expands sales with existing accounts, identifies, and sells to customer needs
  • Maintain excellent client relations, meets customer expectations for quality, and have been bid as and won a large project as named project manager
  • Proactively participates in Regional or National Conferences
  • Supervisory Responsibilities:
    • Assigned staff understands projects, and effectively perform work on time within individual task budgets, and without quality problems
    • Recruit, mentor, and train staff 

Job Requirements

  • 10 plus years of technology-related consulting experience in utilities or public sector agencies, including 5 plus years in a water/wastewater and/or electrical utilities
  • Extensive functional consulting experience with Asset Management and Smart Grid/AMI/AMR
  • Managed multiple staff on projects
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and win competitive projects
  • Ability to develop key accounts
  • Consulting experience in the following:
    • IT Strategic and Master Planning, with hands-on delivery capability
    • Requirements definition and software selection
    • Involvement with Implementation of software applications
    • Business Process Improvement
  • Demonstrated ability to grow and mentor project teams
  • Proven ability to manage personal and team utilization targets and performance, achieving both individual and team-based goals
  • BS in Business, Information Technology or Engineering or related field, advanced education degree a plus
  • Project Management Institute (PMI) Certification as Project Management Professional (PMP) preferred
  • Certification as a Registered Professional Engineer (P.E. or P. Eng.) a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal presentation skills with the ability to present complex ideas in a clear and concise manner to internal and external audiences
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office products
